When you think about the word legacy, what comes to mind?
For many women, it sounds like something distant. Something that happens later, after success, after the “real work” is done. If you work in the charity sector, like I have done for the past 10+ years, then legacy might mean something very different.
But legacy isn’t just about what happens after you’re gone. Legacy is about how you show up right now. You are creating your lasting legacy in your every day actions.
It’s about the energy you bring into every conversation, the courage you model through your choices, and the ripple effect of the work you do with purpose and heart.
You don’t have to build an empire to leave a legacy. You don’t have to donate large amounts to charity (though I’d encourage you to consider that too). You just have to decide that what you do — and how you do it — matters.
1. Rethinking Legacy
For generations, “legacy” has been tied to financial inheritance, status, or large-scale achievement. But for purpose-led women, legacy has a new meaning. It’s not about how big your impact is — it’s about how intentional it is.
Your legacy might be:
- Inspiring your children to see what’s possible.
- Creating a business that gives back.
- Building a community where women feel seen and supported.
- Choosing kindness in leadership.
- Living with authenticity so others feel safe to do the same.
Your legacy is the imprint your purpose leaves on others.
2. The Myth of “Later”
Many women postpone thinking about legacy because they believe it’s something for later — once their business grows, once life settles, once they’ve achieved more. But you are here, now and you’re already building your legacy, moment by moment.
Every decision, every act of courage, every bit of compassion or contribution shapes how you’ll be remembered and how you feel about the life you’re creating.
You don’t have to wait until you feel “ready” to live meaningfully. I propose that your legacy is built in the ordinary — not just the extraordinary.
3. Purpose Beyond Profit
Profit gives you freedom, but purpose gives you fulfilment.
When you build a business purely around numbers, it can quickly feel hollow. Perhaps you have experienced this for yourself? When you build it around impact — even small, consistent impact — it becomes deeply satisfying.
Ask yourself:
- Who benefits from the work I do?
- How do my values show up in my offers, communication, or content?
- What do I want my clients or audience to feel after they work with me?
When purpose drives profit, you create something that lasts far beyond transactions — you create transformation.
4. Living Your Legacy Now
Outside of the charity sector, a legacy isn’t just something you leave — it’s something you live.
It’s the way you lead, the way you listen, the way you uplift others. It’s how you treat your clients, your peers, and yourself.
Every email, every podcast, every post carries your essence. Every choice is an opportunity to align a little more deeply with what you want to be known for.
So rather than asking, “What do I want to leave behind?” Ask yourself, “What do I want to live right now?”
Because your legacy begins in your daily actions, not your distant future.
5. Examples of Living Legacies
Here are some real, tangible ways women are living their legacies:
- Mentoring other women — sharing knowledge freely to empower others.
- Building heart-led communities — online or offline spaces that make women feel supported and understood.
- Creating socially conscious offers — donating a portion of profits, using sustainable practices, or choosing ethical suppliers.
- Storytelling with honesty — using vulnerability to inspire and connect.
- Raising compassionate humans — modelling courage, empathy, and balance for the next generation.
6. If You Feel “Too Small” to Make a Difference
It’s easy to believe your impact doesn’t matter unless it’s visible or large. But in case you’ve not guessed by now, I believe that legacy is cumulative. It’s built through small, consistent acts of integrity and intention.
Every woman who’s ever changed the world started by changing one thing — her mindset, her habits, her courage to take a step.
Your legacy begins exactly where you are, with what you have, and who you are today.
Closing thoughts
Your legacy is already unfolding in the work you do and the love you give.
It’s in the words you share that comfort someone else.
It’s in the courage you model when you choose alignment over approval.
It’s in every moment you act from purpose rather than fear.
So this week, take time to reconnect with what you want your ripple to be.
Because your legacy isn’t waiting for you — it’s happening right now.
